On 17th July 2025, an SBS team visited Muchonoke Highschool in Embu County and distributed sanitary kits to 150 girls, along with mentorship sessions on menstrual health and confidence.
Before the visit, many of the girls were missing an average of 4-5 school days every month due to lack of access to sanitary products - time that added up to weeks of lost learning each term.
Each girl received two packs of sanitary towels, and the school was equipped with enough supplies to support the cohort through the term. Beyond the kits, the mentorship sessions focused on helping the girls understand their changing bodies without shame, building the confidence to stay in class through their cycle instead of staying home.
Teachers at Muchonoke report a noticeable drop in absenteeism since the distribution, and the initiative is part of SBS's wider Dignity and Hope Initiative, which aims to keep girls across Kenya in school through consistent access to menstrual hygiene support.
